By expanding drug management to every department of medication, it maximizes the economic value of drugs.
The newly-built PIVAS in Zhongshan Hospital is the largest of its type in China and even in the world. It provides all inpatients over 1600 hospital beds with services of long-term medical orders for general infusions, and temporary and long-term medical orders for the use of cytotoxic drugs and TPN. It is a new working mode allowing clinical pharmacists to intervene in rational use of drugs.
A new preparation room in Zhongshan hospital was built in the middle of 2012 and passed the acceptance inspection at the beginning of 2013. It is now the largest and newest hospital preparation room in Chinese hospitals, the establishment of which demonstrates that the conditions, facilities and internal quality management of drug preparation in our hospital have reached a newer and higher level.
The department started the work of clinical pharmacy in 2001 and established one of the first teams of full-time clinical pharmacists. There are now 18 full-time clinical pharmacists in the department whose work extends to a dozen more clinical departments and wards of the hospital, and they play an increasingly important role in medication. In 2006, the hospital was selected as one of the first 19 pilot training bases of clinical pharmacists by the Ministry of Public Health. Up to now, it has trained 75 clinical pharmacists possessing national certificates for other domestic hospitals. In 2008, the hospital became one of the pilot units for the establishment of the clinical pharmacist system by the Department of Medical Administration in the Ministry of Public Health. In 2012, it became one of the first 12 training bases of clinical pharmacist teachers for the Ministry of Public Health, and has trained 86 teachers of clinical pharmacists for several units.
